Welcome! My name is Karen Calhoun. I have been a Special Educator for 30 years, 24 of them in Knox County, and 4 of them at Gibbs Elementary. I am a Knoxville native, graduating from UT with a bachelors degree in Special Education. My masters degree is from LMU. In addition to being a teacher, I am also a wife and mother.
I absolutely love my job! Each and every year, I learn something new from my students. My goal for every student in my classroom is for them to become life long learners by doing their personal best each and every day. Technology is an important piece in this goal. I believe technology skills are a necessity for all children, but especially essential for special needs children. With that being said, teaching internet safety will be a priority! I am looking forward to a new and exciting school year! | |||||||
